The city of Young, in Uruguay, was founded in 1889 by the American businessman Thomas F. Young, who bought a large tract of land in the area and began to develop agricultural and livestock production.
The city became an important commercial and service center for the region and today has a population of around 25,000.
During the 1960s, the city was an important center of the textile industry in Uruguay.
Young is also known for its citrus production and has a major annual orange fair.
