Nueva Helvecia is a Uruguayan city located in the department of Colonia.
It was founded by Swiss immigrants in 1861, so it maintains a strong Swiss influence in its architecture and culture. Among its attractions are the church of San Carlos Borromeo, the Regional Museum and the Cerro de los Burros, from where you get a panoramic view of the city.
To get to Nueva Helvecia from Montevideo, you can take Route 1 to Colonia del Sacramento and then continue on Route 54. From Buenos Aires you can take a ferry to Colonia del Sacramento and then continue on Route 54.
Nueva Helvecia is located in the center of the department of Colonia, about 150 km west of Montevideo and about 50 km north of Colonia del Sacramento, in the vicinity of Las Lavanderas lagoon.
